Glass Green was something of a breakthrough for Tim Story. After 5 albums on small indie labels in Europe and Japan, 1987's GG was Story's first for an American label, and a relatively high-profile one at that. Windham Hill's founder Will Ackerman had discovered Story's earlier "Untitled" and had included a track from that album on a piano compilation a few years prior. Glass Green ironically, was almost all electronic, yet retained Story's warm harmonic language - tracks like "The Lure of Silence" and the title track have remained amongst his most popular.

"It's hard to find words to describe this album because much of what is communicated is in the sonorities of the synthesizers, which are crisp and clear, rich and subtle, very musical and intelligent - a far cry from the tinsel and plastic kinds of sounds that are, unfortunately, so common in electronically generated music.
